Galole's Ajira Digital Centre struggles to get off the ground, four years after its construction

Trainers are forced to conduct training in villages via phones and chats, as the facility suffers various technological deficiencies hampering the gains.
Four years after the construction of the Ajira Digital facility in Galole Constituency, Tana River County, the youth are yet to realise its benefit.
The structure completed in the financial year 2021/2022 has been standing a shell of itself, with neither computers nor the internet in place.

Trainers are forced to conduct training in villages via phones and chats, as the facility suffers various technological deficiencies hampering the gains.
Salim Kalime, a Trainers' Coordinator notes that the facility is not in use, and neither has it received a centre manager since it is incomplete.
"It has been an empty room for the last three years until this year when some partners injected some renovations, but it cannot run yet because it was also disconnected from electricity and is yet to receive necessary equipment," he said.

Whereas the facility continues to suffer the limitations, trainers have been forced to improvise training modalities for the youth across the county.
The team also suffers a shortage of trainers and has to depend on one trainer to traverse the three constituencies.
"I have to attend to the people in Tana Delta, Bura and also in Galole in case I am required, the county needs more trainers and proper resources to make this project a reality," said Kalime.
Galole CDF Manager notes that the office has since procured the required equipment and will soon have the facility running.
He further notes that the internet will be soon installed and electricity connected to make the facility operational.
"We will have the facility active by the end of September. We have procured all the necessary equipment and are currently lobbying for a centre manager who will report soon," he said.
